Gerrit was married before in Franeker on May 8, 1837, at the age of 27 to Jeltje Andries van Gorkum (aged 30 years), born in Tzum on March 23, 1807, christened there on March 29, 1807, daughter of Andries Murks van Gorkum (worker and cabbage grower) and Tettje Jans Arbeider, died in Franeker on July 22, 1838, aged 31 years.
