Jan Barf, born in Hollum circa 1885, son of Hannes Barf (shopkeeper) and Geesje Dekker, 1st officer merchant navy.

Jan was married in Harlingen on June 29, 1915, at the age of approximately 30 to
Rinske Tigchelaar (aged 19 years), born in Harlingen on February 25, 1896, daughter of Gerben Tigchelaar (worker, merchant and fishmonger) and Klaaske Vogelzang (maid servant).
